WORK EXPERIENCE:
Like many other people in the water pollution control field, Mike was interested in the outdoors and the environment. As an Eagle Scout he taught the nature and soil and water conservation merit badges at scout camp while still in high school. This led him to pursue a degree in Biology in college. After graduation, Mike was hired as the Laboratory Supervisor for the Municipal Sewer and Water Authority of Cranberry Township in 1989. His duties included supervising all laboratory functions for both the wastewater and water treatment plants. He created a laboratory SOP manual and initiated a laboratory quality control program. He also developed a safety manual and directed the Authority's safety program. In 1994 he was promoted to the position of Assistant Manager of Plant Operations. He supervised all ongoing regular work activities of the Authority's sewer and water plants and laboratory, including the scheduling, assigning and reviewing work carried out by the sewer, water, and laboratory personnel. In October 2002, he was promoted to the Manager of Plant Operations and continues in this position to supervise all operation and maintenance activities for the wastewater treatment plant, three wastewater lift stations, three potable water storage tanks and one potable water booster station. Mike currently is serving on the Biosolids, Scholarship and Golf Outing commitees. He received the Western Pennsylvania Water Pollution Control Association Excellence in Operation Award for 2002 and was nominated by his peers to the WPWPCA Executive Board. Mike recently became a classroom instructor/ outreach assistant through the Pennsylvania Department of Community Economic Development and teaches the laboratory and Sacramento courses. In his spare time Mike likes to archery hunt, fish and golf.
